Visiting South Africa? Doing the Drakensberg? Do This!
- Amphitheatre - The second most photographed site in all South Africa (after Table Mountain). This is a photo you need! It's in the Royal Natal National Park. Also there by the way is the Tugela Falls - by some measures the second highest waterfall in the world.
- Champagne Sports Resort - Golfers dream of this. One of the best courses in the country. And it's just a pleasure. Various coloured tee boxes so if you're not feeling particularly tiger-ish today...that's O.K. you won't need 200 metres plus off the tee just to carry the rough.
- Drakensberg Boys' Choir - Tissues. And a jersey for the goosebumps. Sublime. And cheap!
- Giant's Castle - The central Drakensberg. This is not like the Royal Natal National Park or the Champagne Valley in the northern uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park. No big resort hotel developments here. You'll probably have the mountains to yourself.
- Game Pass Shelter - Most people say 'paintings?' Yes, outdoor art galleries. And at Game Pass Shelter the freizes are big and multi-coloured - stab anybody in the eye. And a fabulous walk. Behind the waterfall (more paintings), swimming and the big prize at the top (quite a demanding climb).
- Horse Riding - You into appaloosa horses? Try 'em on an outride into the "Berg.
- Linen Loft - Dunno what it is. Birds just love this place. There are only so many towels, sheets and duvets a guy can look at without feeling he's seen the movie and got the t-shirt. Birds can go on forever!
- Karkloof Canopy Tour - It's the biggest. You're feeling this is too fast. Too dangerous. I'm gonna die. No you aren't! You're sharing a tree-top canopy with Samago monkeys and some rather rare birds.
- Sani Pass - It's the only road route out of KwaZulu Natal into Lesotho. It's 4x4's only. But you can get a guided tour out of Himeville. The history, flora and fauna...and all the rest...but you just get the feeling you've been too close to the edge once too often.
- Battlefield Tour - An aimiable guide, a great picnic. Hear how a "rag-tag" Boer army handed the British military machine a couple of defeats they won't be forgotten in a hurry (Spioenkop & Colenso).
